5 things to avoid while buying and wearing lipstick

Lipsticks are a staple element of any makeup kit. They give you a classy finish and are usually the base element around which you build your entire look. It is believed that using lipstick is an easier process when compared to other makeup products. But in reality, there is a lot that goes into obtaining that perfect pout. Avoid these common mistakes while purchasing and wearing lipsticks to get the desired look.

Not picking the right one
When purchasing lipstick, it is essential to remember that not all formulas are made the same. Different formulas and textures look different based on the time of the day, the lighting, and even the skin tone and skin type of the individual. This is why it is essential to choose the color and formula that suits you and the occasion. Typically, neon tones and lighter shades are more suitable for the day. For the night, you can switch to brighter and darker shades. You can also choose the type of lipstick based on the occasion. If you need your lipstick to stay on for a longer period, you can opt for a matte finish.

Not using a lip liner
Another common mistake often observed when wearing lipstick is skipping out on lip liners. A lip liner is an integral part of a well-done lip look. It can give you a professional look and an excellent finish. The main reason to use a lip liner is to get a proper boundary. This helps prevent the lipstick from bleeding out during application. Lip liners also act as a great base for your lipstick and make it look more pigmented. They also work on defining your natural lip shape. You can start by using a lip pencil on the top part of your upper lip. Create an X on your cupid’s bow, and then follow your natural lines. Once done, you can fill in the rest with lipstick.

Not matching your lip liner to your lipstick
If you’re using lip liner, ensure that the shade is close enough to your lipstick. If you choose a completely different shade or opt for something too light or dark compared to the lipstick, it could make the lipstick look bad. If you do not want to buy too many lip liners, you can choose a neutral shade that goes with all your lipsticks. This shade does not necessarily have to match your skin tone, but it could be in a range of shades that do match. Don’t forget to blend the lip liner into the lipstick for a smooth and clean look.

Using lipstick on chapped lips
Using lipstick on dry and chapped lips is a big no-no. This is because chapped lips are uneven and could leave your lipstick looking messy instead of smooth and clean. Your lips need to be hydrated and soft before you use lipstick. You can try using a homemade sugar scrub or any lip scrub to obtain smooth and moisturized lips before you start your makeup.

Applying the lipstick wrong
Different textures of lipstick need to be applied differently. Liquid lipsticks are more prone to thick layers. So, before you use it, ensure that you dab off the excess lipstick on the mouth of the bottle. This way, you get a thin layer, and any reapplication does not look too thick. Liquid lipsticks also dry out lips, so ensure that you keep them hydrated.
